Karnataka Launches 2,222 KEO AI PCs to Boost Digital Learning and AI Literacy

Karnataka Becomes First State to Launch AI-Powered KEO Computers

Bengaluru: Karnataka has taken a major step towards expanding access to artificial intelligence and digital technology with the launch of KEO AI PCs, an initiative aimed at making affordable, AI-enabled computing accessible to students and citizens across the state.

Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar launched the KEO AI PCs, with 2,222 computers set to be deployed across Karnataka. The initiative includes eight PCs in each of the two Model Arivu Kendras across 239 taluks and 10 PCs in each of 31 Model Residential Schools.

KEO stands for Knowledge-driven, Economical and Open-source. The Made-in-Karnataka initiative is designed to bridge the digital divide by providing access to advanced computing and AI tools, particularly in rural and underserved areas.

The PCs feature on-device AI capabilities and are expected to support digital education, skill development and AI literacy. The government said the initiative aims to ensure that opportunities created by emerging technologies are not restricted to urban centres or people who can afford expensive devices.

The launch was attended by Ministers K.H. Muniyappa, Eshwar Khandre and Priyank Kharge, KEONICS Chairman and MLA Sharath Bache Gowda, Principal Secretary of the IT & BT Department Dr. Manjula N., industry leaders Kris Gopalakrishnan and Prashanth Prakash, and other dignitaries.

The Karnataka government said the initiative reflects its vision of translating the state's leadership in technology into meaningful opportunities for students and citizens across the state.
