Karnataka Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy Praises Islam, Says He Wants to Undertake Hajj
Karnataka Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy has sparked a political controversy after describing Islam as a “great religion” and expressing his willingness to undertake the Hajj pilgrimage.
Rayareddy said Islam promotes humanity and teaches people how to live responsibly in society. He also urged people to move beyond misconceptions about the religion and understand its positive teachings.
“Islam is a great religion full of humanity. But wrong notions are being spread about Islam in society. This religion teaches how a human should live in society,” Rayareddy said.
The minister further said that the Quran should not be viewed as a text meant only for Muslims and that people from all communities could study it to understand its teachings.
“Prophet Mohammed has given the Quran to the entire universe. Anyone can read the Quran; I am also ready to study the Quran,” he added.
Rayareddy’s remarks, particularly his comments on Islam and his expression of interest in undertaking Hajj, have triggered political reactions and debate in Karnataka.
