Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday paid tribute to Imam Hussain on the occasion of Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote: “The sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) continues to inspire many people to remain steadfast in the pursuit of truth and justice. It is also a reminder of the enduring power of courage and conviction.”
Significance of Ashura.
Ashura commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, who was killed in the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE along with 72 companions.
For Shia Muslims, Ashura is a day of mourning marked by processions, majlis, and recitations. Many Sunni Muslims also observe fasting on this day.
The tribute comes during Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar. Leaders across parties traditionally extend messages on Ashura, recognizing Imam Hussain’s stand against injustice at Karbala as a universal symbol of resistance and moral courage.
