New Delhi: Chief Justice of India Surya Kant has clarified that he never accepted an invitation from the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) University of Law to attend its upcoming convocation as the chief guest.
The clarification comes amid an ongoing controversy over circulars issued by the Bar Council of India (BCI) concerning students graduating from the Hyderabad-based law university.
Speaking after addressing vice-chancellors of national law universities in Jodhpur, CJI Surya Kant said he had never consented to NALSAR’s invitation to preside as the chief guest at the convocation.
The Chief Justice’s remarks seek to clarify his position at a time when the dispute involving NALSAR graduates and the BCI has drawn attention within legal and academic circles.
The controversy has centred on BCI circulars concerning the graduating students, with developments prompting questions about the proposed convocation and the participation of senior judicial figures.
