Iran’s Ghalibaf Warns US: ‘Make Your Move and We’ll Make Ours’

Tehran: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf on Tuesday issued a strong warning to the United States, saying Iran would not retreat in the face of threats, political rhetoric or what he described as air and commercial blockades.

Ghalibaf was responding to US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks at the United Nations General Assembly, which Iranian officials have described as reckless and threatening. He said Iran would not be intimidated by pressure from Washington. 

Ghalibaf warned that any act of aggression against Iran would trigger what he described as a “tough, regretful, precise and swift” response. He used a defiant Persian expression that can be rendered as “Make your move and we’ll make ours.” 

He also linked Iran’s security to energy supplies in the region, warning that if Iran were prevented from selling its oil, other countries in the region would also face consequences. He said that if Iran’s security was not guaranteed, regional infrastructure would not be safe. 

The remarks come amid continuing tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy shipments. Iran has proposed conditions for reopening the waterway, while Washington has rejected elements of Tehran’s latest proposal. 

At the same time, diplomatic contacts between Washington and Tehran have continued through intermediaries. US and Iranian officials remain publicly divided over sanctions, Iran’s nuclear programme and the conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. 

Ghalibaf’s latest statement adds to increasingly confrontational rhetoric from both sides, even as indirect diplomatic efforts continue.
