Iran Warns War Could Spread to Indian Ocean If US or Israel Attacks Again

Iran has warned that the ongoing conflict in West Asia could expand into the Indian Ocean if the United States or Israel launches fresh attacks on Iranian territory.

Yahya Rahim Safavi, an adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, made the remarks on Thursday in a video released by Iran’s Fars News Agency.

Safavi said the conflict had already expanded from the Persian Gulf and Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea, and warned that any new attacks on Iran could open another front.

“If new attacks are launched on Iran, this war front could expand further and reach the Indian Ocean or perhaps even beyond that,” Safavi said.

The warning comes amid heightened tensions across West Asia, with the conflict involving multiple regional fronts and growing concerns over the security of major maritime routes.

Iran Says Defence Policy Is Changing

Separately, Iran’s acting defence minister, Brigadier General Majid ibn Raja, said on Thursday that Tehran’s defence policy was undergoing a change.

Referring to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the acting defence minister said Iran had revised its approach to defence policy in response to the current security environment.

The statements come as Tehran continues to signal that any further military action against Iran could trigger a broader regional response.
