CJP Gives CEC Gyanesh Kumar 48-Hour Resignation Ultimatum, Threatens Nationwide Agitation

Cockroach Janta Party Warns of Nationwide tv Protest If CEC Does Not Step Down

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, demanding his resignation and warning of a nationwide agitation if he does not step down.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke announced the ultimatum at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday. The party alleged that the Election Commission’s functioning has affected voters’ rights and called for an independent inquiry into its decisions.

The CJP also demanded criminal proceedings, a freeze on upcoming elections and the rollback of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to the January 2025 electoral roll.

The demands come amid a wider political controversy over the functioning of the Election Commission and the SIR exercise. Reports have suggested that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised concerns during internal deliberations over electoral-roll decisions and access to voter databases.

The Election Commission has maintained that differences expressed during internal deliberations are part of institutional checks and has said that decisions, including those concerning SIR, were taken unanimously.

Dipke said the CJP would intensify its protests if the demands were not addressed within the 48-hour deadline.
