Anti-Incumbency Can Quickly Work Against Any Government’: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi invoked the phenomenon of anti-incumbency while targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that no political leader in a democratic system can assume that public resistance will not emerge against a government.

Speaking at a press conference, Gandhi described anti-incumbency as a “fundamental force” in Indian politics. He argued that governments and political leaders must recognise that public sentiment can change and that resistance to those in power can develop quickly.

Gandhi's remarks came in the context of his criticism of the Modi government and its political approach. He maintained that democratic politics does not guarantee that an incumbent government will remain immune from public dissatisfaction.

The Congress leader said the dynamics of anti-incumbency can begin to work against any government, underscoring what he described as the changing nature of public opinion in a democracy.
