Jantar Mantar Clash: FIR Filed After Rahul Gandhi Meets DCP With Injured Student
Delhi Police Registers FIR Over Alleged Pellet-Gun Injury to Student Protester
The Delhi Police on Friday registered an FIR over an alleged pellet-gun injury suffered by student protester Sahil Lochab during the July 20 “Sansad Chalo” demonstration at Jantar Mantar, according to reports citing police sources.
The development came after Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Lochab, approached the Deputy Commissioner of Police and demanded action on the student’s complaint alleging excessive use of force during the protest. Gandhi later staged a sit-in outside the Parliament Street Police Station, intensifying the political row over the incident.
Lochab has alleged that he sustained multiple pellet injuries during the protest and suffered serious damage to his right eye. Gandhi has demanded accountability and an investigation into the alleged use of pellet guns against protesters.
The Delhi Police has denied using pellet guns against protesters, making the FIR and subsequent investigation significant in determining what happened during the July 20 demonstration.
