‘One Nation, One Election’ Is Just a Slogan, Real Aim Is ‘One Nation, One Party’: CJP Chief Abhijeet Dipke
Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Tuesday criticised the BJP-led Central government over its ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, alleging that the slogan masked a larger political objective.
Addressing a press conference in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Dipke claimed that “One Nation, One Election” was merely a slogan and alleged that the real intention was “one nation, one political party.”
Dipke’s remarks came amid the CJP’s ongoing campaign against the functioning of the Election Commission and its demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party has announced a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on October 10.
The CJP founder also alleged that police in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur were issuing notices to party activists and questioning them about their plans and travel expenses for the proposed Delhi agitation. He claimed that activists were being pressured not to participate in the protest.
Dipke further questioned how authorities could anticipate that the proposed protest might turn violent and raised objections to alleged directions concerning social-media posts by activists.
The ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal seeks to synchronise elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Dipke, however, has framed the proposal as part of his wider criticism of the Central government and its approach to electoral politics.
His allegations are political claims and have not been established as fact. The Election Commission, meanwhile, has rejected suggestions of divisions within the three-member poll body and maintained that decisions concerning the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) were taken unanimously.
