Tharoor Slams Selectors for Snubbing Sarfaraz Khan From India A Squad for Sri Lanka Tour.

Is there any better batsman outside Test team?’ Congress MP questions Ajit Agarkar-led panel; cites Mumbai batter’s first-class record.

New Delhi– Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has questioned the BCCI selectors for leaving out Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan from the India A squad for the upcoming Sri Lanka tour.

Taking to social media, Tharoor wrote: “I am surprised to not include Mumbai batsman and Sarfaraz Khan who is running out of the Test team in India A team for the Sri Lanka tour.”

The Thiruvananthapuram MP further asked, “Is there any better batsman outside the test team than them? No one has a first-class record around them either. How can a selector get this right?”

Sarfaraz, 27, has been a prolific run-scorer in domestic cricket. He averages over 70 in first-class cricket with 14 centuries, including a triple hundred for Mumbai. He made his Test debut for India against England in 2024 and scored three fifties in five Tests.

The India A squad for the Sri Lanka tour was announced by the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar. The tour is seen as key for fringe players aiming to break into the senior Test side.

The BCCI has not yet responded to Tharoor’s remarks.
