'Vande Mataram’ Sparks Fresh BJP-Congress Clash; Complaint Filed Against Gandhis

A political controversy over the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ has intensified after a complaint was filed against Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi over alleged disrespect during an Independence Day programme at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi.

The controversy erupted after visuals from the August 15 event showed senior Congress leaders speaking and gesturing while Vande Mataram was being recited. BJP leaders alleged that the conduct amounted to disrespect towards the National Song.

BJP leaders have demanded accountability over the incident, while the Congress has rejected the allegations. Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal said the party respects Vande Mataram and accused the BJP of using the national song and the freedom struggle for political purposes.

The complaint has added a fresh flashpoint to the ongoing political confrontation between the BJP and Congress, with both sides trading allegations over the interpretation of the events at the Independence Day function.
