Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar,Strong winds and heavy unseasonal rain wreaked havoc in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Friday evening, with the roof of Sambhajinagar Airport collapsing due to gusty winds. The sudden storm disrupted normal life across the city.
Airport damage: A portion of the airport terminal roof caved in after wind speeds touched *46.7 kmph*. The downpour, brought on by *Cyclone Biporjoy* in the Arabian Sea, was accompanied by hail storms. 8ce3
Chikalthana observatory recorded 25 mm rain, while MGM observatory logged 39.6 mm by 8:30 pm. In just 90 minutes, MGM University observatory received 35.8 mm.

Casualties in other incidents : In a separate wind-related incident on Wednesday, 2 people died near Siddharth Garden when a structure at an entry gate collapsed. A woman was critically injured in Bhagat Singh Nagar after a tree fell on her. Municipal Commissioner announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for families of the deceased.
Cause: Srinivas Aundhkar, director of MGM APJ Abdul Kalam Astrospace and Science Centre, clarified this was *not monsoon or pre-monsoon rain*, but a direct result of *Cyclone Biporjoy’s impact.
IMD forecast: Thunderstorms with rain were predicted, followed by partly cloudy skies. Typical summer conditions expected to return next week.
