Haripad, Alappuzha,  A 19-year-old unmarried woman who came to Haripad Government Hospital complaining of stomach pain delivered a baby in the toilet and allegedly threw the infant out of the window early Tuesday, police said.

What happened:

Denied examination: The woman approached doctors for stomach pain but refused physical examination. This raised suspicion she might be pregnant, a doctor said.

Birth in toilet :While under observation, she went to the toilet multiple times. Doctors heard a faint cry shortly after she entered. Growing suspicious, staff searched and found the newborn outside the toilet window.

Rescue from dogs: The baby had fallen into an area where *stray dogs were roaming. Hospital staff spotted the newborn after hearing cries and rescued it immediately. Doctors said even a slight delay could have endangered the baby’s life.

Both safe: Timely intervention by the night-duty medical team saved the baby. Mother and child were shifted to Government Medical College Hospital, Alappuzha. The newborn is in ICU but out of danger.

Police case: Haripad police have registered a case. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday. The woman reportedly threw the infant outside right after birth.
