Mumbai:A theft has been reported from the office of *Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Minister Sanjay Rathod* in Mantralaya. Rs 80,000 in cash allegedly went missing from the minister’s chamber, triggering an internal inquiry and night-time checking of government officers and staff.
What happened:
Cash missing: The incident came to light when Rs 80,000 kept in the minister’s office was found missing. Preliminary suspicion is that the money disappeared during office hours or late evening.
Night checks ordered: Following the theft, senior officials ordered surprise checking of government officers and employees at night. Mantralaya security has been tightened and entry-exit logs are being examined.
Staff under scanner: Employees who had access to the minister’s chamber are being questioned. CCTV footage from the Mantralaya premises is being scanned to trace the movement of staff.
No complaint yet: As per initial reports, no formal police complaint has been filed so far. The matter is currently being handled through an internal departmental inquiry.
Background Minister Sanjay Rathod, Shiv Sena leader from Yavatmal, holds the Food and Drug Administration portfolio. The incident has raised questions about security lapses inside Mantralaya, the state secretariat.
