Ebola Scare at Jaipur Airport: Ugandan Woman Isolated at RUHS Hospital.

19-year-old tourist from Uganda flagged during screening; samples sent to Pune lab, reports awaited.

Jaipur – A suspected case of Ebola virus disease has been reported in Rajasthan after a 19-year-old woman from Uganda was isolated at Jaipur’s RUHS Hospital on Friday, June 5, 2026.

The woman arrived in Jaipur from Sharjah on an Air Arabia flight and was flagged during routine airport screening after exhibiting symptoms consistent with Ebola virus disease. She has since been admitted to Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) Hospital and placed in strict isolation in a critical care block.

Health Officials: “Not Confirmed Yet”

RUHS Hospital Superintendent Dr. Anil Gupta stated that Ebola virus infection has not been confirmed. “The woman exhibited certain symptoms consistent with the Ebola virus. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, she has been placed in isolation, and all necessary medical protocols are being followed,” he said.

“Ebola cannot be confirmed based on symptoms alone,” Dr. Gupta added. “Conclusions will be drawn only after the test report”.

Samples Sent to Pune Lab

Samples from the woman have been sent to a specialised laboratory in Pune for testing. The report is expected by Friday evening or Saturday morning. A second sample will be sent after 48 hours.

lf the test returns positive, she will be kept under quarantine for 21 days and treated accordingly.

Patient History & Precautions

Officials said the woman has a medical history of abdominal pain and loss of appetite for about a month. At present, she is also complaining of a headache.

Health authorities have advised passengers who travelled with her on the same flight to remain in home isolation as a precautionary measure. All government and private hospitals across Rajasthan have been directed to remain vigilant and follow infection-control protocols.

No Confirmed Ebola Case in India So Far.

The Central Government has advised citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Congo, Uganda and South Sudan. WHO on May 17, 2026, determined the Ebola situation to be a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

India has not reported any case of Ebola Disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus strain so far.
