From Bollywood Star To Farmers' Supporter: How Nana Patekar And Makarand Anaspure Founded Naam Foundation
Nana Patekar Once Gave Up ₹1.5 Crore Car, Donated Money To Farmers
Veteran actor Nana Patekar, known not only for his powerful performances but also for his social work, had once revealed how he chose to give up plans to buy a luxury car worth around ₹1.5 crore and instead use the money to help distressed farmers.
Patekar had spoken about his commitment to supporting farmers and the circumstances that eventually led him and fellow actor Makarand Anaspure to establish the Naam Foundation, an organisation working for the welfare of farmers and rural communities in Maharashtra.
According to Patekar's account, his interaction with farmers facing severe financial difficulties left a deep impression on him. He and Anaspure subsequently decided to channel their efforts towards helping farming families affected by drought, debt and other hardships.
The actor had said that he had initially considered spending a substantial amount of money on a luxury vehicle. However, after witnessing the struggles faced by farmers, he reconsidered the decision and chose to put the money towards their welfare.
The initiative eventually grew into the Naam Foundation, which has undertaken several projects aimed at supporting farmers and villages, including water conservation, community development and assistance to families in distress.
Patekar's decision became one of the examples frequently cited to highlight his relatively simple lifestyle and commitment to social causes. His work outside the film industry has earned him appreciation, particularly in Maharashtra, where farmers' issues remain a major concern.
Through the Naam Foundation, Patekar and Anaspure have continued their efforts to improve conditions in drought-hit and economically distressed rural areas.
