India Condemns Drone Attack Near Makkah, Calls for Peace in Region
India on Wednesday expressed deep concern over a reported drone attack near Makkah, Saudi Arabia, and condemned attacks on Saudi Arabia’s sovereign territory and any actions that could endanger civilians or civilian infrastructure.
Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the incident was “particularly concerning” because of Makkah’s special significance to Muslims around the world. India also called for the early restoration of peace and stability in the region.
Saudi Arabia said its air-defence forces intercepted and destroyed a drone south of Makkah before it entered the restricted airspace over the holy city. Saudi authorities attributed the drone to Yemen’s Houthi movement.
The Houthis, however, denied targeting Makkah, calling the Saudi allegation false.
The incident comes amid escalating regional tensions and a series of attacks involving Saudi Arabia and the Houthis. The reported interception has drawn particular attention because Makkah is Islam’s holiest city and a major destination for Muslim pilgrims worldwide.
