Iranian MP to Students: ‘Stop Protests, Return to Studies; There Is No Other Choice’.
Lawmaker Abdolvahid Fayyazi calls demonstrations ‘useless’ as high school students protest exam, entrance policy changes across 20 provinces.
Tehran, June 7, 2026:– A member of Iran’s parliamentary education committee on Sunday urged protesting students to end demonstrations and resume classes, stating that protests would not achieve results.
“Our advice is that students should stop protesting and go study, because there is no other choice and protests are useless,” said Abdolvahid Fayyazi, a member of parliament’s education and research committee.
Widespread Student Protests.
According to reports, high school students in about 20 Iranian provinces have been holding protests in recent weeks. The demonstrations target education policies, final exam rules, and changes affecting the national university entrance exam, known as the Konkur. Some gatherings have reportedly been met with violence and arrests.
Official Response.
Fayyazi’s remarks are the latest official response to the student unrest. Iranian authorities have not yet announced changes to the contested exam policies. Student groups and activists say the new rules create additional pressure and inequality in university admissions.
Iran’s university entrance exam system has faced criticism from students and families over frequent policy shifts. The latest protests add to ongoing public debate over education reforms, youth concerns, and the right to assembly.
No further details were immediately available on whether dialogue between officials and student representatives is planned.
