Trump Administration Plans $2.8 Billion Arms Package for Israel With 40,000 Heavy Bombs

Proposed Deal Includes 20,000 MK-84s, 20,000 BLU-117s and 20,000 Penetrator Warheads

The Trump administration is moving forward with a proposed $2.8 billion arms package for Israel, according to U.S. officials and reports by Reuters and other major news organisations.

The proposed package includes 40,000 2,000-pound (about one-ton) bombs  comprising 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs. It also includes 20,000 I-2000 Penetrator warheads, according to a U.S. official cited in reports. 

The weapons package has been informally communicated to relevant congressional committees, but reports differ on its precise procedural status. Reuters described it as a planned sale, while other reports said the administration had approved moving forward with the package. AP reported that the deal was not yet final. 

The proposed transfer has drawn attention because 2,000-pound bombs are powerful munitions with a large blast effect, raising concerns about their potential use in densely populated areas. The Biden administration had previously paused a shipment of similar heavy bombs to Israel in 2024 amid concerns over civilian casualties. 

The proposed package follows a $2.04 billion U.S. arms sale approved in February 2025, which included 35,529 MK-84 or BLU-117 bomb bodies and 4,000 I-2000 penetrator warheads.
