Tamil Nadu to Distribute 1.28 Lakh One-Gram Gold Rings to Newborns Under Welfare Scheme
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is set to launch the state’s one-gram gold ring scheme for newborn babies on September 28, according to the details provided.
Under the scheme, the Tamil Nadu government has procured 1.28 lakh one-gram gold rings for distribution to eligible newborns. The initiative is part of the state’s welfare measures aimed at providing support to families.
The government has also made an additional allocation of ₹217.63 crore, taking the total budget for the scheme to ₹724 crore.
The September 28 launch is expected to formally begin the distribution of the gold rings under the programme. The scale of procurement indicates that the scheme is intended to cover a large number of eligible beneficiaries across Tamil Nadu.
The initiative has drawn attention because of its combination of a symbolic gold benefit for newborns and a substantial government allocation. Further details regarding eligibility, distribution procedures and the beneficiaries covered are expected to be outlined by the state government around the launch.
