10 Class 9 Girls Wake Up to Find Their Braids Cut at Andhra Pradesh Hostel

Visakhapatnam: In a bizarre and disturbing incident, the braids of 10 Class 9 girls were found cut while they were asleep at a Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) hostel in Krishnapuram, Bheemili, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

The incident reportedly took place late on September 16, triggering fear among students and raising questions about how the hair could have been cut while the girls were sleeping.

According to preliminary information, six girls were sleeping in one room while four others were in another. Around 38 Class 9 students are reportedly staying in the two rooms at the hostel.

The incident initially raised concerns that an outsider might have entered the hostel during the night. However, police and school authorities are also examining the possibility that fellow students may have been involved.

Police have questioned students and are examining CCTV footage as part of the investigation. Bheemili MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao visited the school on Sunday and said there appeared to be little possibility of an outsider entering the premises. He called for a detailed investigation to determine exactly what happened.

Bheemili Inspector G Divakar said the students had been counselled and that the investigation was underway.

Meanwhile, education authorities have issued show-cause notices to four people, including the school principal, teachers who were on duty and the night watchwoman, seeking explanations regarding the incident and hostel security arrangements.

Counselling has also been initiated for the affected students as authorities attempt to establish who cut the girls' braids and how the incident occurred.

The investigation remains underway, with CCTV footage, statements from students and the role of hostel staff being examined
