Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Urges Middle East Restraint, Says Diplomatic Solution ‘Close’.
Islamabad, June 8, 2026– Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday called on all parties in the Middle East to exercise restraint, warning that the latest surge in violence underscores the risks of a fragile ceasefire and the “devastating consequences” of renewed escalation.
Speaking on the regional conflict, Sharif said Pakistan is “earnestly and painstakingly” working with international partners to secure a peaceful diplomatic resolution, adding that the final objective “appeared close to being achieved.”
“We sincerely urge all sides to exercise restraint and give peace a little more chance,” Sharif said.
He appealed to parties to stay on the “path of diplomacy rather than violence and destruction,” stressing that ongoing peace efforts still have “bright prospects of success.
Sharif’s remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region, where recent clashes have threatened to unravel a tenuous ceasefire agreement. Pakistan has positioned itself as a mediator, engaging with regional and global stakeholders to de-escalate the situation.
