Russia Says 1,600+ Ukrainian Drones Intercepted in Massive Attack on Moscow Region

Moscow: Russia says it has intercepted and destroyed more than 1,600 Ukrainian drones since Saturday, including around 450 that were heading toward Moscow, in what Moscow authorities described as one of the largest drone attacks of the war. 

Several drones reportedly reached the Moscow area despite the Russian air-defence response. Authorities said an attack damaged the Moscow Oil Refinery, while a drone strike on a residential building triggered a fire and the evacuation of hundreds of people. Russian officials reported multiple deaths in the Moscow region. 

The attack came on the final day of Russia's parliamentary elections. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin accused Ukraine of attempting to disrupt the vote, although Kyiv has not publicly claimed responsibility for the strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine's long-range strikes had hit key Russian oil and logistics facilities. 

Meanwhile, Ukraine also continued to face Russian aerial attacks. Ukrainian authorities said Russia launched 138 drones overnight, with 101 reportedly shot down, while deadly strikes were reported in the Kyiv region. 

The latest exchange highlights the growing intensity of long-range drone warfare between Russia and Ukraine, with both sides increasingly targeting infrastructure far from the front lines.
