9-Year-Old Girl Killed in Punjab After Police Mistakenly Open Fire on Family’s Car During Robbery.
Australian-Pakistani family targeted by armed robbers in Chakwal; officers fired on vehicle thinking suspects were inside.
Chakwal, Punjab, June 14, 2026:- A 9-year-old girl from Perth, Australia, was fatally shot by police in Pakistan after officers opened fire on her family’s car, mistaking them for jewel robbers fleeing the scene.
Robbery Turns Deadly.
Hania Ahmed was travelling through Chakwal, in the Punjab region, with her mother Dr Sindra Khan, father Adeel Ahmed, and brother Aafan on Wednesday. The family was on their way to visit relatives when they were confronted by two armed robbers outside the home of Ali Ejaz, Dr Khan’s uncle.
The robbers demanded the family hand over jewellery and the victims complied, giving up items worth an estimated £3,937. After securing the jewellery, the suspects reportedly exchanged fire with a police officer and fled the scene on a motorcycle.
Police Fire on Wrong Vehicle.
As police responded to the incident, officers opened fire on the family’s car, mistakenly believing the jewel robbers were inside. Hania, 9, was struck and later died from her injuries. Her parents and brother were unharmed..
Investigation Launched
Authorities have confirmed an investigation is underway into the police firing. Punjab police said the officers involved are being questioned and a full inquiry has been ordered to determine how the family was mistaken for the suspects.
The family, originally from Perth, had travelled to Pakistan to visit relatives. Pakistan’s Interior Ministry has expressed condolences and pledged accountability..
