Trump Calls Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif a ‘Terrific Man’ at UNGA
New York: US President Donald Trump praised Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as a “terrific man” during his address to the 81st United Nations General Assembly on September 22, 2026.
Trump was discussing what he described as his administration’s role in helping settle several international conflicts. He again highlighted the May 2025 military confrontation between India and Pakistan and claimed that his intervention helped bring about the ceasefire.
Referring to Sharif, Trump said the Pakistani prime minister had thanked him and attributed to Trump a role in saving 30 million lives, and probably many more. These figures and the claim of responsibility were presented by Trump in his speech.
Trump said he had helped settle eight conflicts since taking office and described his relationships with the leaders involved as an important part of those efforts.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was in New York for the UNGA and is scheduled to address the 193-member General Assembly on September 25.
