Trump at UNGA 2026: ‘Dark Age’ Turned Into ‘Golden Age’, US President Highlights American Power

US President Donald Trump, addressing the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, highlighted what he described as the resurgence of American economic and military strength. Trump said his administration had inherited what he called a “dark age” in the United States and claimed that it had since been transformed into a “golden age.”

Trump has repeatedly used the “dark age” and “golden age” contrast while describing his administration's record. In recent remarks, he attributed the earlier situation to the previous Democratic administration and pointed to tax cuts, deregulation, military investment, border policies and energy production as areas where he said his administration had brought major changes. 

Trump Highlights US Economic and Military Strength

In his remarks, Trump presented the United States as a dominant global economic, military and energy power. He highlighted increased investment in the US military and described America as an energy and military superpower.

He also pointed to his administration's economic policies, including tax reductions and deregulation, while arguing that stronger domestic production had strengthened America's position internationally. These are Trump's own claims about his administration's record, rather than independently established assessments of every measure he cited. 

‘Golden Age of America’

Trump's “golden age” phrase has become a recurring theme in his political messaging. In September remarks, he said his administration had taken what he characterized as a “dark age of America” and turned it into a “golden age.” 

The UNGA speech comes as Trump continues to emphasize American strength, economic growth, military power and a more assertive US role in international affairs.
