Bessent Tells Iran: Spend Money on Your People, Not Foreign Proxies
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Urges Iran to Prioritise Its People Over Foreign Proxies
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Thursday urged Iran’s leadership to redirect its financial resources toward the Iranian people instead of supporting allied armed groups abroad.
In a post on X, Bessent said Iranians were struggling to afford basic necessities while the Iranian government was spending large sums overseas. He accused Tehran of funneling billions of dollars to what he described as “terrorist proxies” and said those resources should instead be used to support the country’s population.
Bessent’s remarks come as Washington continues to intensify economic pressure on Tehran through sanctions and other financial measures.
