Humanitarian Crisis Alert: All Leave Cancelled, Stable Patients Discharged, Surgical Wards Cleared In Islamabad Drop Site Report

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE:Pakistan is on high alert ahead of jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) nationwide long march to Islamabad on September 27.

 Federal health authorities have issued written instructions to all major hospitals in Islamabad to prepare for a "mass casualty incident" and "humanitarian crisis", according to documents reviewed by investigative portal Drop Site News.

Hospitals Ordered:

All elective (planned) surgeries postponed indefinitely

 Surgical departments to be reconfigured for surge of casualties

 All forms of leave for medical, nursing, paramedical, admin and support staff suspended, staff on leave recalled immediately

Stable patients being discharged early to clear be

 Patients scheduled for surgery on Monday (Sept 22) were already told procedures are postponed. The government has not publicly linked the hospital order to PTI protest, but documents explicitly mention "humanitarian crisis."

 The move recalls November 2024 crackdown, where Pakistani military allegedly used live rounds and snipers against PTI protesters in Islamabad at night. Dozens were killed and toll was covered up, as per Drop Site investigation.

Mass Detentions:

 Simultaneously, Punjab Police detained Imran Khan's three sisters Aleema Khan, Dr. Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance, allowing 30-day detention without trial. They were taken to Kot Lakhpat Jail.

 Aleema's son Shershah Khan said on X: "Our home is under siege. Both ends of our street cordoned off, effectively placing entire family under house arrest." Eight family members including children were picked up; children later released after hours.

 Several PTI elected leaders, provincial ministers and lawmakers* have also been arrested and party offices raided across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Government Warning:

 Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Monday warned: "We have clearly told PTI they can never achieve anything through such drama. There is still time; do not enter dead-end street. If they proceed, we have Islamabad High Court order of Sept 14  no party has lawful right to occupy public roads, highways, interchanges in Islamabad. We will not leave any loopholes."

PTI Response:

KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said protest will proceed "at all costs". "We have exhausted all constitutional and democratic avenues. We are not allowed to meet Imran Khan despite court orders. Workers will not carry weapons, it will be peaceful," he said, but warned any firing during protest could lead to retaliation and push country towards "civil war". Detailed protest plan to be announced Sept 25.

 Imran Khan, 73, has been in jail since August 2023 at high-security Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi.
