Iran held an emotional final farewell for late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla in Tehran. Thousands of mourners filled the vast prayer hall Thursday to honor Khamenei’s legacy, marking a key moment in the seven-day state funeral that began July 3.
The ceremony drew senior Iranian officials and foreign dignitaries. President Masoud Pezeshkian was visibly moved, wiping away tears as chants and laments echoed through the hall. Khamenei’s flag-draped coffin was surrounded by flowers, with mourners swaying and beating their chests in traditional mourning.

Week-Long Rites Across Iran and Iraq
Khamenei, 86, was killed on February 28 in a joint U.S.Israeli airstrike on Tehran that triggered a four-month war. Today’s ceremony is part of processions spanning Tehran, Qom, Najaf, and Karbala, ending with burial on July 9 at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad.
His son, Mojtaba Khamenei, succeeded him as Supreme Leader in March but remains out of public view after being wounded in the same strike.
