Congress Slams Modi Government Over Detention of LoP, Calls It Attack on Democracy".
Opposition Alleges 'Terrorist-Like Treatment' of LoP Rahul Gandhi, Says People Will Respond".
THE REPORT:
New Delhi:The Congress and Opposition parties have strongly condemned the detention of Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi by Delhi Police during a protest at Lok Kalyan Marg, alleging that the Modi government is treating the LoP "like a terrorist."
The remarks came after Rahul Gandhi, along with several Opposition MPs and workers, was stopped and detained while marching towards the Prime Minister’s residence to protest against alleged police action on students and exam-related issues.
"Attack on Democracy".
Senior Congress leaders said detaining the Leader of Opposition and elected representatives in this manner sets a dangerous precedent.
"This is the Modi government treating the LoP as a terrorist. The people of India will surely reply,"a senior party leader said.
The party argued that raising public issues and protesting is a democratic right, and using police force to suppress it is unacceptable.
Delhi Police Version:
Delhi Police said the detention was carried out because prohibitory orders were in place in the high-security zone around the PM’s residence and permission for the march had not been granted. Officials stated that those detained were later released.
Political Reaction:
The BJP hit back, saying the Opposition was trying to create disruption and politicize law and order. The government maintained that rules must be followed by everyone, including public representatives.
The incident has further heated up the political atmosphere during the Monsoon Session, with the Opposition vowing to continue its protests inside and outside Parliament.
