Iran’s Ghalibaf Warns: No Survival Without Economic Growth, Domestic Production

Iran Not Seeking War, But Must Stay Militarily Ready, Ghalibaf Says

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has warned that military strength alone cannot guarantee the survival of the Islamic Republic if people face hunger and the economy fails to grow.

Speaking at a meeting with Iranian and Iraqi business figures at Iran’s embassy in Baghdad, Ghalibaf said Iran needed financial circulation, economic growth and stronger domestic production alongside military capabilities.

“Security and the economy require each other,” Ghalibaf said, stressing that military security would not be sustainable without a functioning economy. He warned that establishing security without supporting it through economic strength would not provide lasting stability.

Ghalibaf also said Iran was not seeking war, but maintained that military preparedness was necessary for diplomacy to carry weight. According to him, diplomatic efforts are more effective when a country is prepared to defend itself militarily.

His remarks come as Iran faces significant economic pressures, including inflation, trade disruptions and the impact of sanctions and regional conflict. Iran International reported that the country’s 12-month inflation rate reached 66% in July, while food prices were reported to be 128% higher than a year earlier.
