Monsoon to Intensify in Maharashtra: Heavy Rain Alert Issued for Multiple Districts.

IMD flags yellow alert for 25 districts; Konkan, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra likely to see heavy showers as monsoon advances.

Mumbai, June 9, 2026: The India Meteorological Department has warned that monsoon activity will intensify across Maharashtra over the next 48 hours, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in several regions. A yellow alert has been issued for 25 districts as the South-West Monsoon advances into the state. 

Monsoon Entry and Current Status.

Monsoon Arrival: The South-West Monsoon entered Maharashtra via the Konkan region on Saturday after a slight delay this year, following its onset in Kerala and Goa.

Relief for Farmers: The arrival has eased concerns over rising temperatures and water availability, raising hopes for a successful agricultural season. 

 Districts Under Alert.

Yellow Alert: IMD has issued a yellow alert for 25 districts, including Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, Kolhapur, and parts of Marathwada.

Red Alert Zones: Konkan districts like Raigad and Ratnagiri, along with ghat areas of Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur, have seen red alerts during peak spells, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.

Marathwada Forecast: Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph are expected in Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Beed. 

Government Advisory.

Flood Preparedness: The State Emergency Operations Centre has asked district administrations to keep control rooms operational 24x7, deploy water pumps in low-lying urban areas, and monitor river flows.

Public Caution: Citizens have been advised to avoid flood-prone areas, not venture out during heavy rainfall, and not stay under trees during lightning. Fishermen along the Konkan coast have been asked to avoid the sea due to high waves.

 Impact So Far

Mumbai Rains: Mumbai received continuous rains with some western suburbs recording over 50 mm in 5 hours. BMC activated dewatering pumps and emergency teams.

Dam Discharge: All 27 gates of Jayakwadi dam were opened, discharging 1.41 lakh cusecs into the Godavari, prompting flood warnings for villages along its banks. 

The IMD said weather conditions remain favorable for further monsoon advancement, with rain intensity expected to peak over the next 24–48 hours. 

Marathwada (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar): The region is currently experiencing hot, partly cloudy, and mostly dry conditions, with daytime temperatures hovering around $38° C to $39° C and no significant, heavy rainfall recorded yet.State Averages: The state's progressive rainfall is being closely monitored by district authorities, with early-season intermittent showers contributing only incrementally to the overall annual average.Because rainfall can vary significantly across the state, you can monitor the exact precipitation levels in your specific village or district using the official Maharain Rainfall Dashboard.
