India hosts largest national pavilion at Europe’s top tech summit; UPI to expand to Charles de Gaulle, Nice airports; 120 Indian startups join ‘Bharat Innovates’.

Paris, June 18, 2026:- Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Paris on Wednesday for the final leg of his France visit to attend *VivaTech 2026*, Europe’s largest technology and startup event, where India has set up its *largest-ever national pavilion* featuring 30 deep-tech startups. The visit spotlighted UPI’s expansion in France, AI collaboration, and the *India–France Innovation Roadmap .

VivaTech 2026: India’s Record Showcase.

PM Modi is attending VivaTech alongside French President Emmanuel Macron on June 18. India has the *largest national pavilion* at the event, “a fitting symbol of the enormous potential for partnership between Indian and European innovation ecosystems”. 

Over 120 Indian deep-tech startups are in France for the three-day *‘Bharat Innovates 2026’* event in Nice, June 14-16, coinciding with PM Modi’s trip. The startups span 13 frontier themes: semiconductors, AI, quantum, biotech, space, defence, clean energy, and smart mobility. 

PM Modi said: “India is home to one of the world's largest start-up ecosystems. I invite the world to invest in India based on the five pillars of: Talent, Market, Capital, Eco-system and Culture of openness.”

UPI Goes Global: Now at Paris, Nice Airports.

India and France discussed expansion of UPI during bilateral talks. Foreign Secretary.

Vikram Misri confirmed UPI will be available “in the coming week” at Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris and at Nice Airport. 

UPI was formally launched at the *Eiffel Tower in Paris on July 3, 2024, and PM Modi called it “a significant step towards taking UPI global… a wonderful example of encouraging digital payments and fostering stronger ties.”

Misri added: Bharat Innovates is not just a platform for UPI, but also for deep tech… several other fintech innovations will get opportunity to introduce themselves to the larger community.”

 India–France Innovation Roadmap 2030 Signed.

In Nice on June 14, PM Modi and President Macron adopted the India–France Innovation Roadmap 2030 built on four pillars:

Trusted AI and AI governance via a new Joint AI Working Group

Academic mobility  19 institutional agreements signed between IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IISc Bengaluru and French universities

Technological sovereignty through industry–academia linkages

AI-driven healthcare solutions.

Other outcomes:

10 additional Indian startups to be incubated at Station F, Paris’s flagship startup campus

Centre of Digital Sciences to be set up between India’s DST and France’s INRIA

-Letter of Intent signed between Hyderabad’s T-Hub and Nord France Invest.

VivaTech to come to India in partnership with Bangalore Tech Summit.

Target to double bilateral trade from $16 billion to $32 billion in five years 

 Indian Diaspora, Cultural Link.

Upon arrival in Paris, PM Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community. “I am proud of their efforts in bringing India and France closer. The India-France partnership is vital for the progress of our planet,”. he posted on 

Cultural groups including Dhoad Gypsies of Rajasthan and Jaipur Maharaja Brass Band performed during the visit. 

The Indian diaspora in mainland France is estimated at 119,000, with over 350,000 in French overseas territories. 

Global South Voice at G7, Then Paris.

PM Modi’s France visit followed the  G7 Summit in Evian on June 16-17, the 8th consecutive G7 where India was invited. He said: At the G7, India will not only speak for itself, but it will also give voice to the aspirations of the Global South.”
