Karnataka Home Minister stresses rehabilitation, skill training and dignity for prisoners and their children.

PREMATURE RELEASE ON GOOD CONDUCT:

Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge on Saturday distributed release certificates to 24 inmates granted premature release on the basis of good conduct at *Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru.

Addressing them, Kharge urged the released inmates to reintegrate into society, rebuild their lives as responsible citizens, and regain public trust through their conduct.

"IMPRISONMENT IS A CHANCE FOR CORRECTION":

The Minister said imprisonment should not be seen as the end of life, but as an opportunity for self-correction and transformation.He advised them to lead law abiding lives and make meaningful contributions to society after release.

FOCUS ON PRISON REFORMS & REHABILITATION:

Highlighting the state government’s commitment, Kharge said Karnataka is working to transform prisons into centres for rehabilitation, personality development, and social reintegration.

Key initiatives mentioned:

Education and skill development programmes for inmates Vocational training and mental wellness support IT, digital skills, and employment-oriented training to ensure self-reliance after release.

INSPECTION AT PARAPPANA AGRAHARA:

During his visit, Kharge:Inspected the computer division  and interacted with inmates. He directed officials to resolve challenges in training programmes.Visited the prison kitchen to check food quality and hygiene.Reviewed handicrafts made by prisoners and stressed the need for better market linkages so former inmates can earn sustainable livelihoods.Visited the learning centre for children of inmates and assured that their education and future would not be affected. He said the government remains committed to supporting them.

ROADMAP AHEAD:

Kharge announced that the government will introduce comprehensive, technology driven prison programmes with greater emphasis on IT, digital skills, vocational training, and career-focused activities.

"The goal is to equip inmates with capabilities to lead dignified and productive lives after they rejoin society, he said.
