Trump Claims ‘No Choice But To Attack Iran’ During G7 Meeting in France, Says Deal to End War Reached.
US President arrives in Evian-les-Bains after announcing agreement with Tehran; says Strait of Hormuz to reopen, but Iran demands formal signing first.
Evian-les-Bains, France:- U.S. President Donald Trump said he had “no choice but to attack Iran” while addressing reporters at the G7 Summit in France on Monday, shortly after announcing an agreement he claims will bring an end to the 15-week U.S.-Iran conflict.
Trump Arrives at G7 After Announcing Iran Deal.
Trump landed in the lakeside resort of Evian-les-Bains for the Group of Seven summit on June 15-17, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron. The visit comes after Trump announced on Truth Social that a deal with Iran was scheduled to be signed, which he said would end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
Ships of the World, start your engines, Trump posted. “Let the oil flow!” He claimed the agreement would ensure Iran will not get nuclear weapons and said the Strait of Hormuz is “OPEN TO ALL” once the deal is signed.
However, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said the Iranian closure of the strait would continue until the agreement is officially signed.
No Choice’ Remark on Iran Attack.
Speaking to reporters, Trump defended the February 28 launch of the U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran, saying he had “no choice but to attack.” He did not elaborate on the operational details but insisted the action was necessary to address Iran’s nuclear program.
French outlet Le Monde noted that the war, which began February 28, created a “strategic deadlock” and that the deal’s main short-term outcome appears to be reopening the Strait of Hormuz “a passage open to all before the hostilities began.”
G7 Tensions Over Iran Strategy.
Trump’s handling of the Iran war has strained ties with G7 allies. He declined to sign a joint G7 statement calling for de-escalation between Israel and Iran, saying he wanted a “real end” to Iran’s nuclear program rather than a ceasefire.
Trump has had sharp disagreements with host Emmanuel Macron, UK PM Keir Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Italian PM Giorgia Meloni over not consulting them before the decision to
