89-Year-Old Maharashtra Woman Gets Land Back After Tribunal Cancels Gift Deed Over Neglect by Grandson.

Senior Citizens Tribunal restores 7.5-acre farm to elderly woman after kin failed to care for her as promised; order cites Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.

Pune, June 12, 2026:An 89-year-old woman from Maharashtra has won back her 7.5-acre agricultural land after the Senior Citizens Tribunal cancelled a gift deed she had executed in favor of her grandson and great-grandson, ruling that they failed to fulfill their promise to care for her.

Land Transferred on Promise of Care.

The woman had transferred the farmland to her grandson and great-grandson on the condition that they would look after her in old age. She later alleged that they neglected her and failed to provide maintenance, forcing her to approach the Tribunal for relief.

 Tribunal Cancels Deed, Restores Property.

The Senior Citizens Tribunal ruled in her favor, cancelled the gift deed, and restored the property to her name. The order was passed under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, which allows senior citizens to revoke transfer of property if transferees fail to provide basic amenities and physical needs.

Neglect Can Have Legal Consequences’.

Legal experts say the case underscores that neglecting elderly parents or grandparents can lead to loss of gifted property. Section 23 of the Act specifically provides that a transfer can be declared void if the condition of maintenance is not met.

The Tribunal directed the revenue authorities to update records and hand over possession to the woman.
