AIMPLB Plans Nationwide Movement Against Mosque Demolitions, Marginalisation of Muslims.

New Delhi, June 22, 2026.

The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) on Monday announced plans to launch a nationwide movement against what it called the “social and political marginalisation of Muslims and the demolition of mosques and madrasas”.

Key Decisions from Executive Committee Meeting.

The announcement came a day after a meeting of the AIMPLB Executive Committee, presided over by Board President Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani. An Action Committee has been constituted to coordinate with “democracy-loving and peace-loving sections of society” to highlight “promotion of hatred and hostility, damage to communal harmony, attacks on the life, property, honour and dignity of Muslims”.

AIMPLB spokesperson S.Q.R. Ilyas said the Board reviewed the “rapidly deteriorating situation” for Muslims and will soon release a comprehensive document on the “deteriorating condition” of the community.

Issues Flagged: Demolitions, Lynching, UCC, Vande Mataram.

The Board listed several concerns:

Demolition drives targeting Muslim homes, localities, mosques and madrasas; “bulldozer terrorism”.

Mob violence/lynching against Muslims in BJP-ruled states.

Attempts to make Vande Mataram compulsory in government functions and schools, which the Board says is contrary to Article 25 of the Constitution.

Uniform Civil Code (UCC): The Board called “forced implementation” of UCC contrary to religious freedom under Article 25. It noted preparations for UCC in Assam, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra after Uttarakhand and Gujarat. AIMPLB said it will pursue legal action against similar laws, as it has challenged Uttarakhand’s UCC in Nainital High Court.

Background: Recent Demolitions Spark Row.

The move comes amid reports of mosque and dargah demolitions in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Opposition leaders allege at least 14 mosques and dargahs were demolished in Rajasthan’s Barmer, Jaisalmer, Phalodi and Bikaner districts, and a mosque in Moradabad, UP. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi claimed notices were issued to hundreds of other religious sites, including the 250-year-old shrine of Hazrat Mahmood Shah Jilani in Jaisalmer.

Rajasthan Waqf Board chairman Khanu Khan Budhwali also alleged that “in the name of national security, only mosques and madrassas are being targeted” and urged mosque committees to strengthen legal preparedness.

Criticism of Political Parties.

Dr S.Q.R. Ilyas said the Board is “unhappy with all parties, including the Congress,” adding: “None of them raises issues of Muslims strongly”. He flagged that secular parties “continue to maintain a criminal silence” despite “planned attacks on the life, property, honour, dignity, religion and faith of the Muslim community”.

Legal Course Planned.

The Board clarified that if the Centre makes Vande Mataram compulsory through Parliament, it will approach courts. It welcomed the Calcutta High Court’s interim order staying West Bengal’s directive requiring Vande Mataram in schools and madrasas. 7b1b

What’s Next: The AIMPLB said it will prepare and publish a detailed document on the condition of Muslims and build a broader coalition for the nationwide movement. Dates for the agitation have not yet been announced.
