Netanyahu Defends Iran Nuclear Strikes at UN, Says They Were Among His ‘Easiest’ Decisions

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu defended Israel’s attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities during his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Thursday, saying the decision to order the strikes was among the easiest decisions he had made as prime minister.

“Devastating Iran’s nuclear facilities was hard. It was very hard to do. But for me, it was one of the easiest decisions I’ve ever had to make as prime minister,” Netanyahu said.

He argued that Israel had acted to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons and said the consequences would have been far worse had Israel not carried out the attacks.

Netanyahu recalled a pledge he said he made more than a decade ago to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

“14 years ago, I vowed to prevent Iran’s murderous dictatorship from developing atomic bombs,” he said, adding, “That’s exactly what we did.”

The Israeli prime minister also claimed that Israel’s military actions were helping protect other countries in the region. He said some foreign leaders had privately thanked Israel for its actions against Iran’s nuclear facilities.

“Israel is also defending many of the countries whose delegates just left this hall,” Netanyahu said. “Many of their leaders even thank us privately for taking out Iran’s nukes.”

The remarks came amid heightened tensions between Israel, Iran and the United States, with the Iranian nuclear programme remaining a central issue in the ongoing conflict. Recent UN discussions have also focused heavily on the widening regional confrontation.
