Pezeshkian Accuses US of ‘Terrorism’, Says Iran Acted in Self-Defence at UNGA
New York : Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian accused the United States of terrorism and said Iran had acted in self-defence, a day after US President Donald Trump threatened to “annihilate” Iran if no agreement was reached.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Pezeshkian rejected Trump’s description of Iran as a terrorist state and said Tehran itself had been a “victim of terrorism.”
“We have only defended ourselves. We are not terrorists,” Pezeshkian said.
The Iranian president said Tehran remained open to dialogue, diplomacy and negotiations, but ruled out accepting what he described as the “language of force.”
Pezeshkian’s remarks came a day after Trump told world leaders that he faced a choice between reaching a deal with Iran and “annihilating” the Islamic Republic. Trump also said US and Iranian representatives had held discussions in New York.
The contrasting statements highlighted the continuing tensions between Washington and Tehran, even as both sides have indicated that diplomatic contacts remain possible.
The conflict has also continued to raise concerns over regional security and international shipping, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz, a major global energy transit route.
