"No Difference Between NPR and NRC": Asaduddin Owaisi Accuses Amit Shah Of Misleading Country.

AIMIM chief says NRC will be implemented nationwide, urges lawyers and opposition to unite against it.

OWAISI’S REMARKS TO LAWYERS & PUBLIC:

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has again raised alarm over the National Register of Citizens (NRC), saying Union Home Minister Amit Shah wants to implement it across the country.

In a recent address, Owaisi told lawyers and gatherings that the government is trying to link NPR (National Population Register) with NRC as the first step toward a nationwide exercise.

WHAT OWAISI SAID ABOUT NRC:

"No difference between NPR and NRC"

Owaisi alleged that the Home Minister is "misleading the country" by saying NPR and NRC are separate. He argued NPR is the first step towards creation of NRC "NRC will be implemented across the country".  Citing Shah’s own statements in Parliament, Owaisi said: "Amit Shah sahab, as long as the sun keeps rising from the east, we will keep telling the truth. NPR is the first step towards NRC".

Impact on Muslims, Dalits and poor:

Owaisi has consistently said that CAA, NPR and NRC must be seen together. He called CAA "based on religion" and said the combination of these measures is "to trouble Muslims, Dalits, and poor citizens of different communities". He also accused the government of wanting to "make the poor and Muslims stateless".

Constitutional challenge:

Responding to Shah’s assurance that Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist refugees would get citizenship before NRC, Owaisi said: "Religion cannot be the basis of citizenship, its unconstitutional & illegal" .

OWAISI VS AMIT SHAH:

Shah has maintained that NPR has nothing to do with NRC.Owaisi countered this by sharing a 2014 Rajya Sabha reply where MoS Home Kiren Rijiju had said ‘the NPR is the first step towards creation of the National Register of Indian Citizens’.He also dared Shah to a public debate on CAA, NPR and NRC.

POLITICAL CONTEXT:-

Owaisi said all political parties should come together to protest. He has filed and supported legal challenges against CAA in the Supreme Court, arguing it discriminates on the basis of religion.
