Pakistan Deploys 13,000 Troops and JF-17 Fighter Jets to Saudi Arabia Under Defense Pact.

A Pakistani military contingent comprising around 13,000 soldiers and 10 to 18 fighter jets has reached Saudi Arabia as part of a joint strategic defense agreement signed last year, the Gulf Kingdom announced on Saturday, April 11, 2026.

Key Points:

Deployment Details: The military contingent’s deployment to King Abdulaziz Air Base in the Eastern Sector includes fighter jets and support aircraft from the Pakistan Air Force. Social media reports specifically mention deployment of a JF-17 fighter jet squadron, support aircraft, technical teams, and an HQ-19 long-range air defense unit.

Purpose: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence said the deployment aims to enhance joint military coordination, improve operational readiness between the armed forces of the two countries, and support security and stability at regional and international levels.

Defense Pact: Riyadh and Islamabad signed a mutual defence pact in September 2025, committing both sides to treat any aggression against either country as an attack on both. A Pakistan government official confirmed the deployment under this pact.

Context: The deployment follows Iranian strikes on the Gulf kingdom over recent weeks that struck key energy infrastructure and killed a Saudi national. Pakistani officials said the forces are “not there to attack anyone” and are deployed solely for Saudi Arabia’s defense.

Existing Troop: International affairs expert Mohammad Mehdi told  PTI hat as many as 10,000 Pakistani soldiers were already present in Saudi Arabia before this new deployment.

Additional Support: Reports also claim Pakistan sent missile defense systems and interceptors to Saudi Arabia last month during Iran’s strikes on US bases in the Gulf. b0dd01307f79dc74e83d

Background: Pakistan has long provided military support to the kingdom, including training and advisory deployments, while Saudi Arabia has repeatedly stepped in to support Pakistan financially during periods of economic stress.
