"DELAY SIR PROCESS BY 6 MONTHS": SAMAJWADI PARTY WARNS OF MASS DISENFRANCHISEMENT IN MAHARASHTRA DUE TO MONSOON.
SP DEMANDS 6-MONTH EXTENSION FOR SPECIAL INTENSIVE REVISION AMID MONSOON
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, July 10: The Samajwadi Party has demanded that the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across Maharashtra be postponed by at least six months or deferred until winter after the monsoon.
The party submitted a detailed memorandum to the Chief Electoral Officer, Maharashtra at the Divisional Commissioner’s office today.
"RUSHED PROCESS IN RAINS WILL DENY VOTING RIGHTS TO LAKHS"
The party stated that while the SIR process is important, the timeline given by the Election Commission is completely out of sync with ground realities.
Currently, Maharashtra is witnessing heavy rains, floods, red alerts, broken roads, and cut-off villages. In such conditions, it is nearly impossible for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to do door-to-door verification.
Citizens are also unable to step out with documents. In rural areas, Kharif farming is at its peak and farmers are busy in the fields. In many areas, internet, power and communication services are frequently disrupted, affecting online processes.
Even in urban areas, heavy rain, traffic jams and waterlogging are making it difficult for people to submit required documents on time.
SIX KEY DEMANDS SUBMITTED TO ELECTION COMMISSION:
The Samajwadi Party has put forward 6 main demands:
Grant minimum 6-month extension to the SIR process, or conduct it after monsoon in winterReview ground situation in the state and announce a revised schedule Give every eligible voter adequate time and facilities to submit documents Launch special drives for flood affected, remote and tribal areas Reduce unrealistic workload on BLOs and take necessary administrative measures Ensure no eligible voter’s name is deleted unjustly and maintain transparency
"VOTING IS A CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT, NOT A RACE AGAINST TIME".
The memorandum stated: "The right to vote is a constitutional right of every citizen. Instead of rushing to meet a deadline, every eligible voter must get a fair chance. That is true democracy."
The party warned: "If even one eligible citizen’s name is deleted due to lack of time or adverse conditions, the Election machinery will be responsible. This could lead to a flood of objections, claims and complaints in the future."
SP DELEGATION MEETS OFFICIALS:-
The delegation included Dr. Sheikh Abdul Rauf- State Secretary, Dr. Riyaz Deshmukh - State General Secretary, Aqeel Sheikh - State Secretary, along with Isa Yasin, Syed Tabishuddin, Adv. Sheikh Gufran Ahmed, Imran Pathan, Ammar Pathan and other party workers.
The Samajwadi Party has urged the Election Commission to take a positive view of these demands immediately and announce a revised SIR schedule keeping ground realities in mind to protect the constitutional rights of every eligible voter.
