Switch to PNG or Lose LPG? Govt Issues Strict Warning
Maharashtra Minister Chhagan Bhujbal warns citizens to apply for PNG connections within 3 months in available areas or risk losing their LPG cylinder supply.
Mumbai: Amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia, India is grappling with a significant energy crisis. The shortage of natural gas and crude oil has directly impacted the availability and pricing of LPG cylinders. In response to these challenges, the government has issued a stern directive regarding the shift to Piped Natural Gas (PNG).
The Three-Month Deadline
Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal has announced a crucial mandate for residents in areas where PNG infrastructure is already functional. Citizens are required to apply for a PNG connection within a three-month window. This rule applies to both domestic households and commercial establishments. Minister Bhujbal emphasized that various companies are already providing PNG services across different parts of the state, and residents in these zones should apply without delay.
Risk of LPG Disconnection
The government’s warning is clear: in areas where PNG is available, failure to apply for a connection could lead to the suspension of LPG cylinder supplies. However, there is a safeguard for those who have already initiated the process. "If a citizen has applied for a PNG connection but has not yet received it due to technical reasons, their LPG supply will not be disconnected," Bhujbal clarified.
How to Apply
For those unsure of where or how to apply, the government advises contacting the District Supply Officer. Citizens can submit their applications by providing their address and necessary documentation. This regulation specifically targets regions where the PNG network is currently operational or where work is actively nearing completion. The move is seen as a strategic step to reduce dependency on traditional cylinders and ensure a more stable energy flow during global supply chain disruptions.
